Six Flags Great Adventure Kicks Off 2008 Season with New Partnerships and 'Green' Focus
Six Flags Great Adventure will Debut The Dark Knight Coaster and Glow In The Park Parade Late Spring
Six Flags Great Adventure kicks off the 2008 season by continuing to expand partnerships and world-class brands throughout the park as well as taking steps to help conserve and protect the environment by thinking green, beginning April 5. The season will also include the introduction of two major family attractions - THE DARK KNIGHT Coaster, an indoor roller coaster based on Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming movie THE DARK KNIGHT; and Glow in the Park, a spectacular, nighttime light parade set to debut late Spring.
"This season we continue our focus on providing superior and diversified entertainment that will thrill the entire family," said Mark Kane, Six Flags Great Adventure's president. "In addition to our world-class thrill rides and our four distinct areas devoted to families with young children, introducing our guests to new partnerships and well-known brands will help reinforce our overall guest offerings."
With the new Waste Management partnership the park is enhancing its efforts to be environmentally responsible through various initiatives from waste minimization to water and energy conservation. Through Waste Management's single stream recycling program and the additional cardboard baler, the park will now reduce the amount of waste in local landfills and make recycling efficient and more convenient. With the addition of eight new self contained compactors, the park increases its waste capacity which will in turn decrease the amount of truck pick-ups throughout the season. Other in-park efforts include the start of environmental restroom enhancements with the addition of "Accelerator" hand dryers to eliminate the amount of paper towel waste as well as hand-free faucets to conserve water; and the recent addition of other alternative fuel vehicles including two new hybrids and a bike patrol.
Beyond the new, family thrills including THE DARK KNIGHT Coaster and the all-new Glow in the Park night time parade, Six Flags is working to ensure that the park guests' experiences far exceed their expectations by expanding well-known, trusted brands throughout the park. In 2008, the park includes an additional Cold Stone Creamery location offering guests super-premium ice cream made fresh daily; and two more Johnny Rockets locations throughout the park.
FLY ME TO THE MOON - 3D
Through a new partnership with nWave Pictures, Six Flags Great Adventure will bring the excitement of Apollo 11 and the first walk on the moon to millions of park guests this season. FLY ME TO THE MOON - 3D, a ride simulation based on the animated feature film releasing this summer, features the voices of Kelly Ripa, Christopher Lloyd and Nicolette Sheridan. The fact-based fictional film follows three teenaged flies on an incredible adventure as they become part of history - stowing away inside the space helmets of Commanders Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins on the Apollo 11 mission that marked America's first manned landing on the moon.
FLY ME TO THE MOON is the first-ever computer animated feature film designed, created and produced from the first frame, exclusively for the 3D experience. The ride debuts at the park April 5.
THE DARK KNIGHT COASTER
More than just a ride, The Dark Knight Coaster is an adventure that utilizes storytelling, physical movement, video, sound and special effects to bring guests a one-of-a-kind dark ride thrill. As part of the experience, park guests will see, hear and feel the action of the movie the moment they enter the ride queue line, as they are transformed into citizens of Gotham City - caught in the middle of a city under siege and torn apart by The Joker.
Guests will then board a Gotham City rail car and careen through demented hallways of twists, turns, unseen hills and chaotic images, and continue to be tormented by The Joker as they are thrust onto the battlefield of good vs. evil. Will The Dark Knight save them in time?
The attraction will introduce new, customized footage featuring District Attorney Harvey Dent (as portrayed by Aaron Eckhart), produced and shot specifically for The Dark Knight Coaster. The ride will also incorporate audio and visual elements from the film and will debut late Spring.
The Glow in the Park Parade
Beginning Memorial Day weekend, guests will bask in the glow of their favorite characters, and custom-designed floats that will illuminate the night in this uniquely-themed parade produced by renowned Gary Goddard Entertainment and Six Flags. Park-goers will watch in awe as drummers, puppeteers, singers, dancers and acrobats create an unparalleled nighttime fantasyland of sound, light and motion. Glow in the Park features the latest parade technology and special effects with every element adorned with thousand of sparkling lights. The parade will bring the park streets to life like never before displaying dramatic state-of-the-art floats attracting and fascinating guests with the sounds of cirque-style music created by one of Cirque Du Soleil's premiere composers Benoit Jutras. The parade will run through Movietown, Fantasy Forest, Main Street and Boardwalk, weekends beginning Memorial Day, and daily from June 23 through Labor Day weekend at 9 pm.
